Heart Disease Prevention is a NYS grant that provides programs and
education that can help the community realize the dangers of obesity
and inactivity and the effect unhealthy lifestyles has on everyone.

Mini-Grants
We are able to assist in the cost of implementing policy and
environmental changes and offset the cost of  beginning programs that
better the health and overall well being of the community.  Mini-Grants
are given to applicants in the school, worksite, and community setting
and can range between $100 and $1,000.

School Health Advisory Committee
We are available to provide training and become mediators while
assisting your advisory committee in completing and implementing
the School Health Index released by the Center for Disease Control.
The Committee should consist of diverse people within the school
setting as well as involving some parents, students, and perhaps even
community members.

Train the Trainer
We provide trainings upon request to teach willing participants how to
change and implement a policy independently of the STWP, as well as,
provide support and answers to any problems and question that might
arise.
Trainings include:

Physical Activity Programs
Move for Life is a Physical Activity Program that runs from 6-8 weeks
depending on the time of year.  It counts minutes of activity, thus allowing you
to run, bike, swim, play with your kids, rake leaves, or clean your house.
Anything that increases your heart rate can be counted.  For every 10
minutes of activity you do, you are awarded 1 point, and your overall goal is
to reach 120-140 points by the end of the program.
Walk Your Way to 10,000 Steps is a pedometer based 6-8 week program that
challenges you to increase your steps every week.  The ultimate goal is to be
moving at least 10,000 steps a day, which is the equivalent to 3-4 miles.  The
first weeks steps is for a baseline measurement, and from there you are to
add 500 steps to a daily total each week.  By the end of the program you will
have increased your steps by 3,000-4,000 which equals 1-2 miles!
America on the Move is a national 6 week program that not only emphasizes
physical activity but cutting out 100 calories per day as well.  This program is
entirely Internet based with which you can count steps or minutes of activity.
You can compare yourself to the average activity of the entire group and see
    how you measure up.
